Tourism

Andhra state has clocked with around 100 million domestic tourists in India, because of pilgrim tourists places like Tirupati, Srisailam etc.

Andhra Pradesh has the largest coastline next to Guzarat that offers high potential to develop beach resorts that can turn tourist hotspots.

Most of the potential revenue-generating tourist hotspots are scattered across the State, be it the Araku-Visakhapatnam, Simhachalam, Tirupati, Horsely Hills and most importantly the extended coastline. A lot of attractive features can be added along the 1,000-km long coastline from Srikakulam to Nellore .

The State has places that have high tourism potential like “ backwaters of Konaseema that can be developed on the lines of Kerala” , Places like Vizianagaram that are a treasure trove of culture and history, the Buddhist sites in Krishna and Guntur districts and the Chandragiri Fort in Chittoor are some of the other potential places.

“There is a wide scope to develop wildlife tourism in Pulikat Lake in Nellore, the Kolleru Lake in Krishna and West Godavari districts. Beautiful hill stations can be groomed at Araku in Visakhapatnam and at Horsely Hills at Madanapalle in Chittoor district.

There is a wonderful opportunity to promote spiritual pilgrimage through organized tourism and promote Seemandhra as India’s premier pilgrimage state. Apart from Tirupati, Srisailam, Amaravathi, Srikalahasti, Arasavalli, Mahanandi and Kanakadurga temples, there are a good number of important ancient temples like “Pancharama Siva temples” that are in a neglected state.

The State is blessed with several pristine lakes such as Kolleru lake and Cumbum lake. There are also beautiful valleys such as Araku Valley. Also, along all the major rivers in the state, there are beautiful ecosystems. Rajhamundry to Papikondalu in Godavari river can be developed as a major tourist attraction with river cruises.

Great opportunity to coastal Andhra, especially Vizag with a beautiful landscape to develop as one of the important tourist destination. It's one of the very few places in the country that has the seas, hills and forests as well as heritage tourism sites.

The need for a separate tourism board and corporation was also echoed by tour operators who agreed that coastal Andhra now stands a very good chance of emerging as the prominent tourism hub in the state. So stakeholders would be more interested in investing in the area in the form of hotels, resorts and leisure facilities where picturesque nature offers a scope to generate revenue. Sometime ago, the Centre had also floated a package for Vizag and the coastal belt to develop tourism here without any progress till date.

Andhra Pradesh Govt. announced a master plan on 4th Sep 2014 in the State Assembly for the overall development of the State.
